IPL photorejuvenation: pulsed light against spots and redness
Intense pulsed light (IPL) targets the pigments and vessels behind an uneven complexion: sun spots, age spots, diffuse redness, light rosacea. The light is absorbed by melanin or haemoglobin, which heat up and resorb — the complexion regains its uniformity and the stimulated skin regains firmness.
Sessions, precautions and companions
A course generally involves 3 to 5 sessions one month apart, outside tanning season — spots darken for a few days, then flake away. Frequently asked questions
Is IPL painful?
Each flash causes a brief warm sting, often compared to a small elastic band. The sensation remains entirely bearable and eases as the session goes on.
Why do my spots darken after the session?
It is the sign the light has properly targeted the melanin: spots darken for a few days, then flake away and lighten. That is the treatment's normal course.
Can you have IPL on tanned skin?
No: the course is scheduled outside tanning periods, with strict sun protection. Your phototype is evaluated at the complimentary assessment before any session.
How many IPL sessions are needed?
Generally three to five sessions one month apart, depending on the extent of the spots or redness. The precise calendar is set at the assessment.
Does IPL also treat redness?
Yes: the light is also absorbed by haemoglobin, making it a treatment of choice for diffuse redness and light rosacea.
